ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ serves up highest Wimbledon audience for five years

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ ONE's Wimbledon Coverage proved a winning formula for audiences last night as a huge 13.1 million viewers, 55% of the available audience, tuned in to see British favourite Tim Henman go through to the quarter-finals by beating Switzerland's Michel Kratochvil in a nail-biting five-set match.

The 13.1 million peak was the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s highest audience for Wimbledon for at least five years, beating the 12.5 million during the men's final in 2000 and the 12.8 million for the Henman match on the middle Sunday in 1997.

The average figure for the programme between 7.00 and 8.50pm last night - which also featured Greg Rusedski - was 8.5 million, a 37% audience share.

Peter Salmon, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Director of Sport said: "This is our highest Wimbledon audience in recent times. We are thrilled to be able to show Tim and Greg to a massive audience and be in a position to help bring the nation together to support them; they are national heroes.

"This is a fantastic boost for them and also for the whole ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ team down at Wimbledon. Coming off the back of a very successful World Cup campaign, it's added to a marvellous summer of sport on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and there's still more to come."
