

Frank Gillard Awards - nominations announced
Nominations
for this year's Frank Gillard Awards, which recognise excellence
and achievement in ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Local Radio, were announced today (10 September
2002).
Leading
the hunt for gold this year is ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds with an unprecedented
seven nominations, followed by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Cleveland and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Three
Counties Radio each with three nominations.
One
of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s smaller stations, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Jersey, has achieved its
first ever nomination, in a joint entry with the Special Features
Unit in the Social Action category.
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½
Radio Newcastle also receives its first nomination, in the Outside
Broadcast category.
Contesting
the coveted Station of the Year Award this year are ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds,
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Three Counties Radio and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Southern Counties Radio.
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½
Radio Cumbria won this award last year for its compelling broadcasting
during the foot and mouth epidemic.
Awards
Organiser Owen Bentley says: "We've had a record number of
entries for the awards this year and have been impressed by the
quality of the work submitted."
The
Frank Gillard Awards will be presented by the Chairman of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½,
Gavyn Davies, in an awards ceremony in Norwich on 17 October. John
Inverdale will host the event.
