ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ programmes to have wider reach in the south of Mexico

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service's programmes in Spanish will now be heard on five FM and AM frequencies right across Guerrero, in the south of Mexico, thanks to an agreement between the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and the state company O.P.D. Radio y Televisión de Guerrero.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ programmes will be broadcast regularly on FM and AM from the main areas of the Guerrero State: Acapulco (97.7FM), in the centre (870 AM) and the north (1310 AM) of the State as well as the Costa Chica area (100 AM) and the Tierra Caliente area (820AM).

Each of the five stations will carry ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service's news, science, music and cultural programmes.

The agreement will be signed on Tuesday 24 September in Cuernavaca by Director General of O.P.D. Radio y Televisión de Guerrero, Lic. Patricia Toscana Suazo, and James Painter, Head of the Latin American Section of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service.

O.P.D. Radio y Televisión de Guerrero is a member of La Red Nacional de Radiodifusoras y Televisoras Educativas y Culturales with whom the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ already has an agreement to broadcast four programmes.

This new deal will enable the station to broadcast on five frequencies a total of 25 hours a week of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ programming.

"The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is recognised throughout the world," says Patricia Toscana Suazo.

"By signing this agreement, our company will be guaranteeing our listeners high quality programmes about contemporary international issues."

James Painter says: "Listeners from the Guerrero State are extremely important to us. This agreement enables us to deliver a range of high quality programmes."

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service programmes in Spanish are beamed by satellite to more than 20 stations in Mexico and more than 100 throughout Latin America.

Amongst its partners in Mexico are Ricardo Rocha´s Detras de la Noticia, Radio Educación, and Estadio 590AM.
