of the Pops Awards get interactive
From
Gareth Gates to Eminem, Kylie to the Kittens – at the Top of
the Pops Awards 2002, viewers can vote for their wannabe winners
via digital interactive TV for the first time, as well as by SMS,
phone or the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½i website .
From
now and for the next three weeks, digital viewers of Friday night's
Top of the Pops and Top of the Pops Saturday will be able to cast
their vote live during the programme to choose their favourite pop
stars for the Top of the Pops Awards 2002.
Viewers
of Digital Satellite and Digital Cable can "Press Red"
on their remote controls to vote for the nominated acts.
Eight
voting categories appear on screen including Top Album of the Year,
Top Dance Act, Top Newcomer, Top Pop Act, Top R&B Act, Top Rock
Act, Top Single and Top Tour.
Viewers
will be able to submit votes once a day for each of the categories,
and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 29 November
2002, to be broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ ONE.
Freeview
viewers will be able to access a text based service offering category
voting details while visitors to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½i website will also be able
to vote in the eight categories by accessing .
Scott
Gronmark, Head of Interactive TV for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½i said: "Interactive
TV adds a new dimension to viewer participation alongside telephone
and internet voting.
"The
'i-vote' has already played an important role in giving the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½i
audience a chance to voice their opinions and share with others
their thoughts.
"I
do not doubt that this year's Top of the Pops awards will continue
that trend."
