RADIO DERBY
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ TALENT

Radio Derby kicks off search for new talent

As part of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s campaign to find and encourage new talent, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Derby is going to make someone's dream come true by beginning a search for Derbyshire and East Staffordshire's Amateur Sports Reporter of the Year.

The winner gets the chance to be part of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Derby sports team on a match day alongside the station's Rams commentator Ross Fletcher.

They'll summarise the game live on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Derby and then attend the post-match press conference with the manager and players.

Their report will be broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Derby and feature on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s website for Derbyshire.

Gary Andrews, Assistant Editor, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Derby, says: "The competition is open to everyone. The only conditions are that you must be passionate about sport and interested in broadcasting.

"It doesn't matter how old you are or which football team you support but you must not have been paid for work as a professional sports reporter before.

"To enter all you need to do is send an audio cassette or mini-disc with three minutes of you commentating on any sporting event - whether it's football, rugby or athletics.

"We also want to hear your summary of the match or race - which can last no longer than one minute."

For more information and to get an entry form, budding reporters can visit the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Bus next week when it calls at some of the area's football clubs:

Monday 14 April: Burton Albion - Eton Park, 10.00am to 3.00pm;

Tuesday 15 April: Derby County - Pride Park, outside the Baseball Bar, 10.00am to 3.00pm;

Wednesday 16 April: Ilkeston Town - New Manor Ground, 10.00am to 3.00pm.

You can also find out more by phoning the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Derby Action Desk on 01332 370707 or by visiting the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ website for Derbyshire: .

The closing date for entries is Monday 9 June 2003.

The finalists will be featured on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Derby's Sportscene Talk In on Monday 23 June, and the public can then vote for their favourite by phone, or on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ website for Derbyshire.

The winner will be announced on Sportscene Talk In the following week (Monday 30 June).
