RADIOS HUMBERSIDE, LEEDS,
SHEFFIELD & ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ NORTH YORKSHIRE

Links across the Atlantic thanks to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ regional radio programme

Hull based singer/songwriter Emma Rugg has been given the opportunity of a lifetime and recorded a single in the United States, thanks to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Raw Talent radio show.

The programme - broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Humberside, Leeds, Sheffield and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ North Yorkshire - began by featuring unsigned, exciting new talent from across the region.

Then a decision was taken to stream the programme live on the internet as well, introducing the region's talent to a worldwide audience.

Emma - who the music press widely regard as one of the rising stars of the UK music scene - got her break when she performed on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Raw Talent.

She was heard by American musician Henry Doss who decided that her voice was perfect to feature on two tracks of his up-and-coming CD. He contacted the programme.

The two of them spoke for the first time on air, and three days later, Emma flew from Manchester Airport - for her first time out of the country - to Michigan, via Chicago.

There she and Henry recorded their first joint single - it will be released in the UK later this year - and together they played a number of venues.

"I can't believe what has happened to me in the last few weeks. Working with Henry on the songs was really exciting as the style fits nicely with my own material," says Emma.

"Now we're going to have the single played across the US and hopefully the UK, and myself and Henry and his band are going to do a tour after the single is released here later in the year."

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Presenter Alan Raw is now hoping that more musicians from the region can be linked with others across the world, and get an exchange going.

"There is so much talent out there and lots of gigs to be played," he says.

"ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Raw Talent is now encouraging acts to contact us if they have floorspace and gigs that people can play, and we're putting them in contact with bands from across the world who are in a similar situation, and then it's up to them to try and get the exchange going."
