ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland scoops top awards at IPR ceremony

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland swept the boards at Northern Ireland's Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Press and Broadcasting Awards on Friday night (26 March 2004) with Kevin Magee being named the IPR Northern Ireland Journalist of the Year 2003.

A host of awards were won across a range of services, programming and presenting.

Ìý

Kevin Magee also collected awards for News Broadcaster of the Year (Television and Overall Categories) and as part of the Spotlight team which won the News/Current Affairs Programme of the Year Award for Spotlight: Loyalists at War.

Ìý

Other award winners were: Maggie Taggart, Award for Specialist Journalist of The Year (Broadcast and Overall Categories); ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland Online, Award for Website Publication of the Year; ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland News Online, Award for Technical Innovation; Brian Rowan, E-journalist of the Year; Brian Hollywood, Newcomer of the Year (Broadcast Category); Eddie O'Gorman, Award for Business Journalist of the Year (Broadcast and Overall Categories) and Audrey Carville won the News Broadcaster of the Year (Radio Category).

Commenting on the winners, the judges said: "Kevin [Kevin Magee, Journalist of the Year] is courageous and challenging in his reporting. He demonstrates skill and sensitivity in covering a wide range of difficult issues.

"The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland website demonstrates quality web development in terms of design, navigation, innovation and content."

Anna Carragher, Controller ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland said: "This has been an outstanding year for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland - for our programmes, presenters and services which is reflected in the range and prestige of the awards won.

"These latest achievements are an acknowledgement of the professionalism and dedication of our journalism and broadcasting.

"We will continue, aiming to provide high quality programming and services for our audiences."

Ìý

The gala ceremony was held in the Ramada Hotel, Belfast and attended by over 450 guests.

Ìý

Twenty awards in total were handed out to journalists and broadcasters.
