Thousands of budding authors
are hard at work completing short stories begun by top authors including
Ian Rankin, Alexei Sayle, and Fay Weldon as part of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s End
of Story project.
End of Story books containing the half-stories have proved highly prized.

More than 20,000 were distributed across the UK following the competition
launch on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ THREE and most were gone within hours.
People have been calling ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ phonelines and centres in a bid to get
other copies.
Lucky finders get a head start on the competition as the half-stories
will not go 'live' to the rest of the public on the website -
- until Sunday 2 May.
The uptake of the books has been so successful that a special update
programme has now been scheduled for Saturday 1 May on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ THREE at
8.30pm (Friday 7 May on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ ONE).

After the initial launch programme, the series hadn't been due to
screen again until the results programmes went out in the autumn.
Series producer Alison Black of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland said: "The response
has been phenomenal. We've had people queuing round the block for an
End of Story Workshop at Waterstone's in Piccadilly in London and just
about everywhere that has had a delivery of books has been cleaned out."
The End of Story books were distributed at bus and train stations and
at a major bookstores as well as some more bizarre locations throughout
the country with clues provided on the website.
One of the few locations with books remaining in stock is the relatively
remote Base Station for the Nevis range at Aonach Mor.
