Roger Mosey appointed as new Director of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sport

Mark Thompson, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Director-General, has today (18 July 2005) announced the appointment of Roger Mosey as the new Director of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sport.

Roger Mosey joins ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sport from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News, where he has been Head of TV News since January 2000, with responsibility for output across the One, Six and Ten O'Clock news, Newsnight and News 24.

Ìý

He was the Controller of Radio Five Live when it was named Sony National Radio Station of the Year in 1998, and he's a former Editor of the Today programme.

Ìý

Roger Mosey will become the leader of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sport as it progresses through the World Cup, to the Olympics in Beijing and in the build up to the 2012 Olympics in London.

Ìý

He will be responsible for developing and strengthening Sport's multi-media, multi-platform programmes and services and leading ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sport into the future, including the move to Manchester.

Ìý

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sport currently has a large rights portfolio, including the rights to the World Cup up to and including 2014; the Olympics up to and including 2012; Wimbledon; Six Nations; Open Golf; the FA Cup; Premier League football and the Grand National.

Mark Thompson said: "Sport is fundamental to what the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is about, and we are committed to bringing the big national sporting moments to the UK.
