The new ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland office in Selkirk will be officially opened next week during a visit by senior figures from the corporation.

Ìý

Ken MacQuarrie, Controller of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland, will perform the honours at the Ettrick Riverside in Selkirk on Thursday 6 October.

Ìý

The opening is part of a series of events organised by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland on the day, including a public meeting in Galashiels, chaired by Scotland Live presenter Gary Robertson, which will give listeners and viewers in the Borders the chance to have their say on any ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ issues.

Ìý

There will also be a trip back to school for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland weather forecaster Heather Reid. Heather will breeze into Earlston High School to give pupils the inside track on forecasting and working in the media.

Ìý

Jeremy Peat, National Governor for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland, will be at the top table for the public meeting at the Volunteer Hall, Galashiels, at 7.00pm.

Ìý

The forum is open to all and will give viewers and listeners in the Borders the opportunity to hear from senior members of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland management team and to raise any points about ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland's programmes and operations.

Ìý

The Government has now announced its plans for digital broadcasting and viewers in the Borders will be the first in Britain to be affected.

Ìý

The process will begin in October 2008 when the analogue television signal from the Selkirk transmitter will be switched off and a fully digital service will take its place.

Ìý

Andrew Townend of Digital UK, the independent organisation set up to co-ordinate and communicate the switchover to digital television, will be present to answer any queries on the changeover from analogue, while ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland's Head Of News, Blair Jenkins, will outline the corporation's plans to improve local news coverage.

Ìý

Ken MacQuarrie said: "Moving our operations from Selkirk High Street into Ettrick Riverside has marked the start of a new era of broadcasting by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland in the Borders.

Ìý

"The new premises are equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will allow us to explore new creative opportunities. It is a significant step in the development of our digital strategy across Scotland.

Ìý

"The public meeting is an ideal platform for us to hear the views of our audiences and to answer questions about our current operations and our plans for the future."
