ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland audiences serve ace result for Andrew Murray in Sports Personality poll



Tennis star Andrew Murray has reached another milestone by securing an emphatic victory in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scotland Sports Personality of the Year 2005 vote.

The Dunblane teenager gained 55 per cent of the votes to take first place against the four other contenders. He won by the biggest margin recorded in the Scottish vote.

Andrew, whose popularity soared during a heroic run in this year's Wimbledon, beat off the challenges of golfer Colin Montgomerie, cyclist Chris Hoy, cricketer Craig Wright and boxer Scott Harrison.

Andrew was presented with his award today (Friday) in Edinburgh by Hibernian FC manager Tony Mowbray.

Ìý

Tony is the current Off the Ball Manager of the Year, having won the accolade from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Scotland sports programme on St Andrew's Night.

Ìý

Andrew, who is a Hibernian fan, said: "It has been a great year. In my wildest dreams I never thought it would turn out the way it has."

The 2005 ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sports Personality of the Year vote takes place on Sunday (11 December) at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Television Centre in London.

In last year's awards Andrew was named Young Sports Personality of the Year.
