The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ has responded to a report published today which was commissioned by the Commercial Radio Companies Association (CRCA).
Ìý
The report is entitled A licence to kill? The impact of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s licence fee
settlement on commercial radio.
Ìý
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ says: "Many of the arguments put forward in this paper have been debated
at length during the Charter Review process, not least during Lord Burns'
extensive review of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ analogue radio and Tim Gardam's review of our digital
services.
Ìý
"The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ absolutely refutes the idea that it imitates formats and that
commercial radio alone has been at the forefront of innovation.
Ìý
"The CRCA is also
well aware that the five new local radio services referred to in the document
will all be subject to a Market Impact test before they are allowed to go ahead.
Ìý
"Listeners tune in to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s services because they provide innovative and
distinctive content and provide the widest possible audience with services that
the market alone would not provide."
