The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ has announced that Aziz Rashid has been appointed as the new Head of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s East Midlands Region, responsible for all local and regional output.

Aziz moves to his new job, based in Nottingham, from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News in London, where he is currently Weekend Editor in charge of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½
ONE bulletins and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News 24 coverage.

Aziz joined the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ in 1989 as a trainee at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½
World Service radio. After five years there he moved to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½
World TV working on projects including co-ordinating the coverage for the 50th anniversary
of the Second World War, and working as Editor of the United States Election programmes
for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News 24.

In 2001 he joined Breakfast News as
its Deputy Editor, and in 2004, after working as a Strand Editor
on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News 24, he moved to his current job as Weekend Editor.

Of the appointment, Andy Griffee, Controller of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ English
Regions, says: "I'm delighted to welcome someone with a such strong track record
in different areas of news to the East Midlands as the region's new Head.

has a wealth of experience that he will be bringing with him and we all look
forward to working with him when he takes up his new role."

Aziz said: "I'm really excited by the prospect of leading regional programming in the East Midlands. There is a fantastic wealth of talent across this region working in radio, television and online.

"We are the forefront of change in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and I'm looking forward to working with the team to make programmes and services that are relevant all our audiences in the digital age."

A start date has still to be confirmed. Aziz takes over from Mike
Bettison, Managing Editor of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Nottingham, who has been acting Head of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ East Midlands.
