Business depends on profits to survive and grow - but what part does social responsibility play?
Ìý
Does a commitment to behave ethically while improving the
quality of life for workers, their families and the local community help
or hinder the bottom-line?
Ìý
This is the question that a panel of business leaders and commentators will
consider in the latest ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service debate: Corporate Social Responsibility: people or profit?
Ìý
It will be staged before an audience of past and present winners of The Ernst
and Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards in Monte Carlo on 9 June 2006 and broadcast
on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service on 11 June at 2.00pm, repeated at 8.00pm.
Ìý
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ business journalist Peter Day will chair the debate.
Ìý
He says: "Corporate social responsibility is an issue facing business worldwide - and is
a possible key to business survival in the 21st century.
Ìý
"We hope the debate will help our audience understand why there is a debate
about CSR and shed light on why it is important.
Ìý
"Contributions will also come from an audience of some of the brightest and best
entrepreneurs in the world and established business leaders."
