Show Me The Funny - ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ launches new UK-wide search for next generation of funny people
Can you make people laugh? Are you a budding comedy writer or performer just itching for a break? If so the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is looking for you!
Ìý
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ New Talent, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4 and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 7 are launching Show Me The Funny, a brand new scheme that will replace the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ New Comedy Award.
Ìý
It incorporates Sketch Factor, where you could find yourself writing for a comedy series on Radio 4, and Witty and Twisted, a scheme that could see you performing in your own show on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 7.
Ìý
Paul Schlesinger, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Head of Radio Light Entertainment, says:
"Reinvigorating the flow of new writers and performers into radio comedy is absolutely crucial and I'm delighted that we are able to build on the good work already done to create the biggest ever radio talent search with Show Me The Funny.
Ìý
"So many star writers and writer/performers have come through the ranks of radio - this will be the start of finding the next generation."
Ìý
Angela Wallis, Executive Producer of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ New Talent, says: "This is a brilliant opportunity for writers and performers to work with the most experienced comedy team in radio.
Ìý
"They will get guidance on how to make comedy work on radio and promising performers will get the chance to make their own showcase for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 7 with talented writers working on a top ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4 sketch show.
Ìý
"ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ New Talent is delighted to be part of this initiative to find exciting new comedy performers and writers to work across ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio."
Ìý
Sketch Factor
Ìý
If you're a budding funny writer, we'd like to read some of your sketches. The deadline is Wednesday 11 October and workshops with short-listed funny people will take place in November. If you're one of the top ten funniest writers, you'll get to work on a whole eight-part Radio 4 comedy series in London performed by top names.
Ìý
Witty and Twisted for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 7
Ìý
If you're a comedy performer, send us three minutes of you being funny - it can
be a sketch, some stand-up or whatever you like. The only criteria is that
it has to be funny. The top ten funniest will make a pilot for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 7 with
the overall winner being commissioned for their own series. Deadline for
entries is Wednesday 11 October.
