Peter Johnston named new Controller for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland

Peter Johnston is to be the new Controller, Northern Ireland, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ announced
today.

He succeeds Anna Carragher, who retires on 17 November
2006 after six years in the job, and will formally take up his new position on
that date.

Peter - who is 40 - is currently Head of Broadcasting for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland, a
post he has held for the past three years, with overall responsibility for the
commissioning and scheduling of programmes and content for Northern Ireland
audiences on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ TV, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Ulster, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Foyle and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Online.

Peter said: "It is an honour to be given this incredible opportunity and I look
forward to working with all the staff at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland to meet the many
challenges ahead.

Commenting on the appointment, Pat Loughrey, Director of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Nations and
Regions and himself a former Controller of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland, said: "Peter
Johnston's knowledge of the Northern Ireland audience is second to none.

"He has
been a very successful Head of Broadcasting and I am confident that he will be
an equally successful Controller."
Ìý
Peter Johnston was born in 1966 and educated at Ballymena Academy.
Ìý
After
reading Chemical Engineering at Imperial College, London, he worked for
Shell International in London and PricewaterhouseCoopers in Belfast.
Ìý
He joined ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Northern Ireland in 1994 as a Research Executive, progressing
quickly to become Head of Marketing and Development.
Ìý
He then became Head of New
Media for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Nations and Regions before taking up post as Head of Broadcasting
in 2003.

He is married with two children and lives in Hillsborough, County Down.
