ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Director-General Mark Thompson survived another day in the cut-throat media world - when a beard shave in aid of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children in Need went without a hitch.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills was the lucky Celebrity Scissorhands contestant who had the job of making his boss even less hirsute than usual.

The pair shared the usual salon banter, with the client telling his barber that it was currently a tough time for the industry, though he appreciated the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ had an element of privilege.

The conversation did not stay completely high-brow though, with Mark Thompson keen not to brush his stylist up the wrong way, saying he had one of the six best broadcasting jobs in the country.

The Director-General also revealed that ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ executive and programme maker Alan Yentob had been scheduled to go under the razor as well, but had "chickened out".

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children in Need television broadcast is on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One tomorrow from 7pm to 2am, whilst over on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Three the Scissorhands Academy will be hard at work getting celebrites ready for their appearances.
