Tributes to Marmaduke Hussey

Tributes have been paid to Lord Hussey, former Chairman of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, who has died aged 83.

Marmaduke Hussey was ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Chairman from 1986 to 1996.

Anthony Salz, Acting ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Chairman, said on behalf of the Board of Governors: "We send our sincere condolences to Lady Hussey.

"Marmaduke Hussey was a distinguished Chairman of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ representing licence fee payers for 10 years.

"He oversaw rapid change during that time and before his retirement in 1996 he ensured that the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ was in a strong position to lead the advent of the internet and digital broadcasting.

"His time at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ was only a small part of his long-standing dedication to public service."

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Director-General Mark Thompson said: "Lord Hussey made an immense contribution to public life, including his time as Chairman of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.

"He will be remembered for his great vision, his integrity and his forthrightness, but also for his great personal kindness."
