Pioneering Look East cameraman dies

One of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Look East's pioneering cameramen has died at his home.
Ìý
Eric Hancock was known to colleagues and friends simply as Hank.
Ìý
He spent more than
30 years working for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ regional news programme Look East in Norwich as
a sound recordist and then cameraman after he left the RAF, based at Watton. Ìý
Hank was one of a generation of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ staff who brought local live news into
people's homes in new ways, helping to firmly establish Look East as the
informative entertaining programme we know today.

In 1995 he was honoured by the Royal Television Society with a Cameraman
of the Year award and this was followed by a Lifetime Achievement Award in
2001.

Hank retired in 2001 after spending many years working
alongside and encouraging young journalists who are now working for national
and regional television.
Ìý
Tim Bishop, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Head of Region, says: "Hank was polite, professional and a
great ambassador for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Look East.

"He was passionate about his work, and
eager and happy to share that with anyone who asked for his help.

simply Hank to everyone from royalty to receptionists across the East of
England and people who worked with him will miss his warmth and wisdom."

Shaun Whitmore, a fellow cameraman at Look East who worked alongside Hank
for many years, adds: "Along with many others I owe my career to Hank. He was a
wonderful man and a great trainer. He will be sadly missed."

Eric Hancock died on Saturday 24 February 2007.
