Pay offer for staff: ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ statement
|
Yesterday the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ met the unions (BECTU, the NUJ and Amicus) to present the final two-year pay offer for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ staff. The unions are to ballot their members with a positive recommendation.
Ìý
The headlines of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s offer are:
Ìý
A four per cent increase for 2007 and two per cent increase for 2008. These increases will apply to basic pay and allowances
Ìý
A minimum increase of £1,000 in year one for staff earning less than £25,000
Ìý
Improvements to London weighting, recognising the particular financial challenges staff facing living in the capital
Ìý
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will defer for a further 12 months any increases in pension fund contributions by staff.
Ìý
Stephen Kelly, Director, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ People, said: "I believe this two year offer is fair and realistic.
Ìý
"It offers staff and the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ stability and certainty over the next two years in respect of pay at a time of considerable challenge and change for the Corporation.
Ìý
"It also recognises the need for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ to invest in its people whilst investing in services for audiences.
Ìý
"We are pleased that the unions are to ballot with a positive recommendation."

Notes to Editors
Ìý
1. The pay offer covers staff in the publicly-funded areas of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, including ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service. Pay for staff in ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Resources and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Worldwide (both commercial companies) is separately negotiated by these businesses.
Ìý
2. A routine valuation of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Pension Scheme is currently underway and will report early in 2008. This will inform decisions on future contribution rates.
Ìý
3. It is proposed that this pay offer will be implemented from 1 August 2007.
