ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust review of bbc.co.uk: ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ statement

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ today issued a statement following the publication of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust's review of bbc.co.uk.

The statement reads:

"We welcome today's report by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust into bbc.co.uk and their conclusion that the service is highly valued by licence payers and provides good value for money.
Ìý
"We support the view of the report that as broadband usage increases, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ must continue to deliver against the rising expectations from the licence fee payers that we provide a distinctive online service that serves their needs.

"The report shows that, since 2006, we have succeeded in embedding bbc.co.uk in a dynamic way across our entire output from light entertainment to news.

"We engaged all of our producers in television and radio across the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ to produce outstanding content for bbc.co.uk and the report acknowledges that this strategy has been highly successful.

"However, we accept the Trust's conclusions that our processes and management controls were not adequate for a pan-ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ service straddling multiple cost centres. This is regrettable and we recognise the need to address this.

"We are developing plans which we believe will fully meet the concerns raised in the report, and provide a high level of reassurance to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust that additional controls will be quickly implemented.

"We will do this while ensuring that bbc.co.uk continues to be a distinctive service delivering strong public value.
We look forward to discussing our plans in detail with the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust in the coming weeks."
