Life in a nature reserve during lockdown

Despite the lockdown, life doesn’t stop in the countryside. Lambs are being born, crops are shooting up and spring flowers are in bloom.

Landward returns and Dougie Vipond is sharing stories about how the current lockdown is affecting people who live in the Scottish countryside.

Ranger Kieron works for the National Trust for Scotland and says spring hasn’t been cancelled where he’s in isloation on the nature reserve at St Abb’s Head on the East Coast of Scotland.

Despite some of his activities being restricted for safety reasons, he’s still able to carry out essential maintenance and assess the local wildlife populations on the reserve. As part of his daily walks he’s lucky enough to see some amazing seabirds “We’ve got shags on eggs, we’ve got razorbills and guillemots coming and going on the cliffs and fulmars squabbling on nest ledges, and kittiwakes coming and going as well, so there’s a lot of activity on the cliffs.”
