Tectonics 2025 Artist Profile

ClÍona Cassidy
Clíona Cassidy is a soprano, composer and experimental vocalist from Dublin. Her compositional practice is focused around operatic improvisation and she has co written and recorded an improvised opera “Silk Threads” with Raymond MacDonald. She has worked regularly for Scottish Opera since 2012, most recently playing “Harry” in Albert Herring. She is also a long time member of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and has a duo with George Burt. She teaches vocal improvisation and has given workshops at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
She will perform the role of Aud in Joanna Nicholson’s “Aud the deep minded” at the Edinburgh festival this year as part of the Made in Scotland showcase, after a tour in the Scottish highlands. Her work has been broadcast on ѿý Radio 3 and is focused on exploring the delicate space where her opera and folk music background meets the quiet, still inner artist space - giving a voice to that blurred intersection of memory and the spontaneous present.
