Fun ways to occupy the kids this Easter weekend

This Easter weekend is going to be unlike any many of us have ever experienced before. With the nation in isolation, many traditional activities and Easter gatherings of extended family and friends are cancelled.

Blogger and Mum-on-lockdown joined The Friday Afternoon Show to share some ideas to entertain the kids and bring the family closer together even if you’re actually far apart.

So here’s a few ways to celebrate the day and still keep it special for the kids, or at least take up a good amount of time!

Salt Dough Easter Egg Decorations

Kids really like baking, so here’s a really easy-peasy dough recipe (1 cup of flour, half a cup of water, half a cup of salt) make a dough, bake it, then you can paint the shapes.

Make an Easter Bonnet

Use up that cardboard packaging, get creative with the kids and design yourself some seriously seasonal headgear – show off your creations to the relatives on social media.

Egg Decorating

Dye eggs pastel colours and paint, but why not try something simple but less obvious, like a Minion or a Pokémon?

No-Flour Baking

If you're struggling with flour supplies and don't have any to spare you can try some no-flour baking — cornflake or rice crispy chocolate nests for your decorated eggs are a classic.

Remote Treasure Hunt

Why not include gran and grandad in the Easter egg hunt? Hide the eggs around the house and let grandparents know where you’ve hidden them. They can then read out clues to the kids of where to find them over a video call. This can be as much fun for the oldies as the kids!

Egg Assault Course

Why not try a different type of Easter egg rolling? Create a mini assault course for egg in the garden or hallway or any space you have. Make a slide out of cardboard and loo roll tubes (if you have any). The one with the egg most intact at the end wins!

Create a Time Capsule

It’s an extraordinary time, so why not set them a challenge to do a drawing or write a poem or a letter to their future self. It’s a good way to remember the day.
