Vote for Your Ultimate 80s Duet

The 80s found many of our favourite pop stars joining forces to deliver countless classic duets – most were love songs, though some were more combative… there were lots of ballads, but also some exhilarating anthems.

In a decade brimming with so much combined star power, we want to know: what’s YOUR Ultimate 80s pairing?

We’ve drawn up the definitive list of 80s duets for you to vote on:

  • We’re looking at two individual voices, united in song – so, for example Queen (with lead vocals from Freddie Mercury) and David Bowie make the list, but the multiple voices on Run DMC and Aerosmith don’t – sorry! We're also discounting groups with two or more members on regular vocal duties, so no Beautiful South, Womack and Womack or The Proclaimers for example.

  • Every track on the shortlist was originally released to the world between December 1979 and December 1989 and made the UK Top 50 (although four - INXS & Jimmy Barnes, Paula Abdul & The Wild Pair, Roy Orbison & k.d. lang, and Quincy Jones feat. Ray Charles & Chaka Khan had to wait until the 90s to chart in the UK).

You have until Monday 21 July, midday to vote for your favourite 80s duets – you have FIVE votes, which you can cast all on one song or spread across multiple tracks.

We'll be revealing Your Ultimate 80s Duets Top 40 in a special programme, presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, available first on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sounds from Friday 1 August, alongside more Radio 2 Loves The 80s specials. The show will also be broadcast on Radio 2 at 1-3pm, Saturday 9 August.
