Your trust is very important to us. This means the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data. It is important that you read this notice so that you are aware of how and why we are using such personal data. This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal data about you during and after your relationship with us, in accordance with data protection law.
Why are we doing this and how can you participate?
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 3 and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Contains Strong Language are working together to find the best emerging sound design talent in the UK.
We are looking for people with a real passion for sound design (in any form) who are keen to develop their skills.
We will be running a development scheme called Sound First, which is aimed at finding new sound artists, with the hope of giving the shortlisted sound artists shadowing opportunities at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, and commissions for the Radio 3 programme The Verb.
You will need to sign into your ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ account and can use any sounds you wish to create your soundscape, including the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sound FX library.
If you would like to apply to take part, simply use our online platform to submit your mp3 file, which should demonstrate your creativity and technical skill.
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will shortlist around six (6) participants from the submissions we have received.

The names of the selected participants will be made public and they may be required to do post-award publicity.
What personal data will ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ collect and how will we use it?
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will collect and process the personal data for the purposes of assessing your submission, contacting you if you are shortlisted, and to select the participants we want to offer a development scheme place.
Personal data:
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will collect and process the following personal data about you:
- Full name
- Contact number
- Email address
- County
- mp3 file
- Confirmation that you are aged 18 or older
We may also process special category data if you have access requirements. This is personal data revealing or concerning your:
- Health
Who is the Data Controller?
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is the “data controller” of your personal data. This means that the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ decides what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. For the avoidance of doubt, your personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes set out in this privacy notice. As the data controller, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ has the responsibility to comply, and to demonstrate compliance with, data protection law.
Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The lawful basis on which the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ processes your personal data is Public Task. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates, and entertains. The Public Purposes of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ are: “To support learning for people of all ages”, and “To show the most creative, highest quality and distinctive output and services.”
For the processing of any special category data that may be revealed as part of the accessibility requirements, the lawful basis is for reasons of Substantial Public Interest (Part 2 of Schedule 1 of the DPA 2018; 8. Equality of opportunity or treatment).
Sharing your personal data
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ works with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and not independently of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.
We will share your personal data with scheme partners where necessary.
We may share personal data with a third party where required or permitted by law.
Retaining your personal data
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will retain unsuccessful applicants' personal data for three (3) months after closing date, after which it will be deleted.
The personal data of those who are selected will be retained for a period of nine (9) months after closing date, after which it will be deleted.
Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the EEA.
Your rights and more information
You have rights under data protection law:
- You can request a copy of the personal data ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ stores about you.
- You have the right to request that we rectify any inaccurate or incomplete personal data that we hold about you.
- You have the right to ask for the personal data we collect about you to be deleted, however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ to refuse your request.
- In certain circumstances, you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data or to object to the processing of your personal data.
- You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data to you or to another organisation, in certain circumstances.
