Answer Me This: Terms and Conditions + Privacy Notice

Terms and Conditions
These terms were updated on the 19th June 2025.

1. The promoter of the competition is the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½. Please listen carefully for specific details of your ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ radio station competition as this may broadcast as a simulcast across multiple stations.
Eligibility

2. Answer Me This on the Radio is a quiz open to all residents (over 18 years of age) of the UK, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, except ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Group employees, their close relatives and anyone connected with the quiz. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be required. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ reserves the right to disqualify any contestant or winner who breaches these rules.
How to Enter

3. Answer Me This will be run during Vinny and Cate on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Ulster and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Foyle (except when editorial requirements lead to a change in schedule or a change in programme content). Although we plan to run a daily quiz, this will not always be via the method described in these terms nor with an entrant from this competition.

4. To be in with a chance of playing the quiz, listeners need to get in touch with us, using one of the methods outlined below and please include your name, contact number and explain why you want to take part.
* Email - answermethis@bbc.co.uk Please include the word “Quiz” in the subject line
* WhatsApp – 0 30 30 80 55 55 – start your message with the keyword ‘PRIZE’

5. The Vinny & Cate production team will review eligible entries and shortlist contestants based on their explanation of why they want to play; this is an editorial decision and not all contestants will be shortlisted.

6. Qualifying stage:
6.1. Following the shortlisting stage outlined above, selected contestants called back will be asked about their general knowledge, interests, and hobbies.
6.2. Contestants may be asked additional questions about their news, sport and trivia knowledge and will be selected on how lively and interesting they will sound on air and how recently they have appeared on Radio Ulster and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Foyle.

7. All contestants put through to play on-air must supply their name, postal address, and a daytime contact telephone number.

8. We will only accept one entry per person by either entry method listed above. Once an entry has been submitted, it may be selected for shortlisting any time within 28 days of entry. Subsequent entries by the same person within 28 days will be disregarded. If an entrant does not hear from us or we have not been able to get in touch with them after reasonable attempts, the entrant has been unsuccessful in reaching the qualifying stage and may try again after 28 days.

9. One contestant will be chosen to take part in Answer Me This each day that the quiz is played with a contestant from the shortlist, except for the very first quiz in which two will be chosen or unless the previous winner cannot compete. The contestant will be told which day they will be taking part in the quiz and each quiz will be broadcast live. If a selected contestant is unavailable at the time the quiz is due to be broadcast, their participation will end and another contestant will be selected to take part in the quiz. All entries will only be kept for 28 days. If an entrant has not been successful in becoming an on-air contestant at the qualifying stage, they can apply again after 28 days from entering.

On-Air Answer Me This Quiz

10. The selected contestants for the day will answer a series of quick-fire questions and will be awarded a score based on the number of correct answers they achieved out of 10.

11. The winner is the contestant who has the most correct answers and will be announced at the end of each quiz. In the event of a tie in the number of questions answered correctly across the segment, the winner will be decided by a pre-answered numerical tie-breaker question, closest number wins.

The Prize

12. The prize for winning Answer Me This is a Radio Ulster branded merchandise, most likely a mug (this will be announced on-air). If any single contestant manages to win 5 quizzes in a row, they will win a DAB radio and become one of our ‘Champions’ (see below).

13. The prizes are non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and are not redeemable for cash or other prizes.

14. The winner cannot copy or distribute the prize or copies of it. Any programme names, branding or logos on or associated with the prize cannot be used or reproduced by the winner in any way. The winner shall not do anything with the prize that might bring the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ into disrepute.

15. Where required, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will pass on details of the winner to the appropriate prize provider/venue to arrange prize fulfilment. If the prize requires additional action (such as collection of tickets at the box office) the winner must follow instructions given (which may include proof of identity). The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is not responsible for any failure to follow such instructions.

16. The prize may have additional requirements which alter the eligibility for entrants to the competition (such as, but not limited to, an age limit for entry to an event for which tickets are offered). In these instances, the changes to the eligibility requirements will be announced clearly on-air.

17. If the prize includes tickets or entry to an event, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will not be responsible for any failure by the winner and guests (if applicable) to gain entry or re-entry to the event due to their behaviour or their failure to meet the admission requirements of the event, including, but not limited to, minimum age. Winners are responsible for checking admission requirements to the venue. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ will not be responsible for the suspension or cancellation of the prize event. If the prize includes access to a sporting event, the winners, and guests (if applicable) must not be subject to any order banning them from attending such events.

18. The winner acknowledges that event tickets have additional Terms and Conditions. Winners (and their guests where applicable) agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions of the ticketed event. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is not responsible for third party terms or third-party websites related to the prize.

Champion of Champions Quiz

19. From time to time, in addition to the regular Answer Me This competition, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Ulster and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Foyle may run a special Champion of Champions quiz. This quiz will feature two previous winners (“Champions”) and they will compete in a head-to-head quiz to win a prize.

20. The Champions will answer a series of quick-fire questions and will be awarded a score based on the number of correct answers they give.

21. The ‘Champion of Champions’ will be the contestant who scores the highest number of points out of 10 questions.

22. In the event of a tie in the number of questions answered correctly, the winner will be decided by a pre-answered numerical tie-breaker question, closest number wins.

23. Full details of the quiz format, eligibility, and participation will be communicated to qualifying Champions before the competition begins and announced on-air.

24. The prize for the Champion of Champions will be announced on-air prior to the commencement of the quiz.

25. These Terms and Conditions apply to the Champion of Champions quiz, unless otherwise stated. Any additional terms specific to the Champion of Champions quiz will be made available to contestants in advance.

26. Participation in the Champion of Champions quiz is entirely voluntary. There is no obligation for any Champion to take part.

31. Contestants chosen to play on-air will not be allowed to enter Answer Me This for the following 24 months, unless they are invited back.

32. Contestants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering this competition.
