Series in which oenophile Oz Clarke takes wine novice James May on a on a month's trip to France to learn all about the grape. In Bordeaux, Oz teaches James about the correct way to talk about wine, which James considers pretentious. They meet an aristocratic grower whose chateau makes wine for over a hundred pounds a bottle. Following a night's camping, Oz challenges James to his first test - to talk about the wines he samples at the posh Chateau Pichon Longueville-Baron.
