Series that follows six public figures as they pursue their dreams of becoming musicians. It captures the trials and tribulations they face during the process and sees how they fare as they dedicate themselves to a rigorous musical regime of lessons, practising and public performances, all of which lead towards one virtuoso solo performance.
Aled Jones is a household name as a classical soloist and former child star. But can he become a rock drummer? Super stardom as a chorister took Aled away from his dream of being in a band. Now Aled gets another chance, and enrols on the drumming course at a London rock school. His tutor Erik Stams sets the bar high. He has to learn the drum accompaniments to one of US rock superstar Lenny Kravitz’s numbers; take a rock drumming exam, and even master a Led Zepplin classic for a public gig with a tribute band. Aled revisits his past, and the pop band he formed and then disbanded nearly twenty years ago. He discovers how drumming is an effective slimming aid, and how addictive and hard this musical skill can be. Finally he flies to Germany to play drums for one of his musical heroes at a major stadium gig. But he’s had precious little time to practise, and when he gets there he discovers he’s been learning the wrong version of the song. Can this drumming novice pull a new version out of the bag in just a few hours, and will the 13000 strong audience cotton on?
