Drama-documentary exploring Scottish fairy belief through the life of 17th-century writer Robert Kirk. Kirk believed in fairies and wrote a book, The Secret Commonwealth, describing their world. Although Kirk was a minister, he reconciled his belief in fairies with Christianity. Even after widespread belief in fairies died out, they continued to influence artists and writers. Peter Pan is the direct descendant of the fairies Robert Kirk saw. The film explores possible rational explanations for belief in fairies - the distant memory of a vanished race, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and a sleep disorder that makes people believe today that they have encountered aliens.
