Jaap de Hoop Scheffer's five-year term as NATO Secretary General is coming to an end and many issues remain unresolved. The alliance is struggling to work out an appropriate exit strategy in Afghanistan and internal conflicts are a major hindrance. Relations with Russia are tense and look set to worsen as the alliance expands eastwards. Sackur asks Scheffer if NATO can find a unity of purpose with the new US administration.
