Four aspiring writers from Hay-on-Wye travel to Timbuktu on a trip of a lifetime. Their epic adventure involves a 2500-mile journey from Wales into the Sahara desert.

World famous Welsh book town Hay-on-Wye won a global competition to be twinned with Timbuktu - the fabled 'most inaccessible place' in the subcontinent of Africa - and ancient home of writing, manuscripts and books. Four teenagers from Hay have the opportunity of going on the writing journey of their lifetime. They take 'the route of ink' to Timbuktu and use their voyage of discovery to fuel and inspire their own creative writing.
