ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Philharmonic under Gianandrea Noseda. Beethoven: Overture (The Ruins of Athens); Violin Concerto (with Leonidas Kavakos). Wagner: Siegfried Idyll; Tristan und Isolde (excerpt).

In a concert given at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Giandrea Noseda conducts the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Philharmonic in music by Beethoven and Wagner. After Beethoven's Overture to the incidental music, the Ruins of Athens, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Philharmonic are joined by young virtuoso violinist Leonidas Kavakos for a performance of Beethoven's Violin Concerto.

The second part of the concert is devoted to the orchestral works of Wagner. Siegfried's Idyll, a lyrical work for strings composed as a birthday present for Wagner's wife, Cosima, is followed by the Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde.
