Part 1
Presented by Petroc Trelawny. In a performance from St Giles', Cripplegate in London, David Hill conducts the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Singers in music by Widor, Tavener and Jean Langlais.
St Giles' Church, in London's Barbican, is one of only a few such places in this country which can boast two complete and well-equipped organs in the same building - unlike some Continental countries, especially France, where it's much more common. In this live Performance on 3, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Singers and David Hill explore some of the sacred repertoire which makes use of these musical resources - including two splendidly exuberant settings of the mass by French composers, Arvo Part's setting of a plainsong hymn, and the first performance of a new piece by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Singers' new Associate Composer, Gabriel Jackson. In addition, solo works for two organs by two 20th-century masters of the instrument, and motets for double choir. Presented by Petroc Trelawny.
