Russell Davies celebrates the art, craft and inspiration of the popular song, covering Matt Munro, Hot Club of Cowtown, Doris Day and Daryl Sherman.

An unusual Matt Monro song, just re-released, We're Gonna Change The World leads to a much earlier 'change' song in a brand-new version by the Hot Club of Cowtown.

Russell then revives an old mystery - the identity of singer Joyce Weston. Her husband turned out to be a songwriter and his famous Can't Help Falling In Love With You is heard sung by Doris Day.

The remainder of the show is given over to songs with a Venetian flavour of one sort or another, before we conclude with a song from US chanteuse Daryl Sherman who is currently on tour in Britain.
