Prom 31
Andrew Davis conducts the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ SO in a Prom featuring musical homages. Messiaen: Un sourire. Mozart: Piano Concerto No 17. Parry: Elegy for Brahms. Brahms: Symphony No 4.
With Katie Derham
Sir Andrew Davis returns to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms as Conductor Laureate of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra with a typically wide-ranging programme of music whose pairings reflect musical homages. 'Mozart always smiled; his music also smiled,' said Messiaen of Mozart - which explains the title of his Mozart tribute Un sourire. That prefaces one of Mozart's most ebullient piano concertos, and the second half of the concert couples one of Brahms's greatest works with a tribute from one of his English admirers. Introduced by Martin Handley.
