Kathryn Bolkovac, Whistleblower
Sarah Montague talks to Kathryn Bolkovac, a former US police officer, who exposed a human trafficking operation while working with a private military contractor in post-war Bosnia.
10 years ago, Kathryn Bolkovac, a US police officer in Nebraska, took a job with a private military contractor in post-war Bosnia. DynCorp International had been contracted to support the UN peace keeping mission, and Bolkovac was assigned as a human rights investigator, heading the gender affairs unit. She quickly discovered that some of her colleagues were involved in human trafficking and prostitution. When she blew the whistle, she was demoted, then fired, and then threatened. Bolkovac fled the country, but with the evidence she had collected she won a lawsuit against DynCorp and has now written a book about her experience. HARDtalk's Sarah Montague asks her if justice has been done.
