Adapted from the novels of Naguib Mahfouz, chronicling the fortunes of an Egyptian family. The eldest son Fahmy joins the nationalist cause in the popular uprising of March 1919.

This episode begins at the end of the First World War and culminates in a popular uprising in March 1919 when the eldest son Fahmy joins the nationalist cause.
