Last Call For Love

Episode 5 of 5

Drama series about a newly-opened public justice centre. Rebuffed by both Darren and Kaz, Jake bares his teeth by torching a car in the community centre car park.

Rebuffed by both Darren and Kaz, Jake bares his teeth by torching a car in the community centre car park as a warning. When Jake Little is charged with arson, the staff at the Public Justice Centre finally have the chance to take him off the streets for good. Instead of passing the case on to the City Crown Court, Coburn decides to try the case at the Dovefield Public Justice Centre, and this time they have an unimpeachable witness - Father Jim Kelly.

Coburn is seen at an estate agent handing in his notice on his apartment, but he asks Louise not to go public with the story until after the Jake Little court case.

When Father Jim has a heart attack, the case against Jake Little looks like collapsing before it's even begun. Even though half the community appears to have seen Jake at the scene of the crime, no-one else is prepared to speak up. Coburn and Joe Gateacre, and even reporter Louise, find themselves desperately searching for the one good man or woman who can finally turn the tide in their direction.

Coburn and his team have been working hard to persuade the community to give evidence, but the 'don't grass' culture is hard to crack. The team know that this case has to work to prove that giving evidence against offenders is constructive - if Jake Little gets off yet again, the locals' fears of reprisals will be vindicated and the PJC will lose all credibility.

Eventually a heartfelt speech from Coburn at a community event touches one person who is prepared to stand up and be counted - but will they hold their nerve?
