This week's main theme is the music of Jerome Kern. We hear four of his compositions performed by such diverse talents as Tommy Dorsey, Rebecca Kilgore and Angela Lansbury.
A musical greeting to the new month opens the show, followed by a linked series of items from Dolores Gray, whose song mentions 'scrabble', to "Scrabble" by Lorraine Feather, to a number by The Sextet Of The Rhythm Club Of London (created by Lorraine's father, Leonard Feather). Then on to Hazel Scott, one of the SRCL members, playing and singing Rodgers & Hart's 'Dancing On The Ceiling' which is followed by the same composers' "My Heart Stood Still' and leads us to the show's main theme - the music of Jerome Kern: We hear four of his compositions performed by such diverse talents as Tommy Dorsey, Rebecca Kilgore and Angela Lansbury. Also into the mix go Hutch with more Rodgers & Hart and Sting with Vivian Ellis' 'Spread A Little Happiness' - and there's one more Ellis number from Georges Guetary - 'Ma Belle Marguerite'.
