Bob meets Jackie who brings the sad news that Stella's gran is dying, she wanted mother and daughter to reconcile and she's planning to leave Stella 11,000 pounds. This means her and Bob could afford to get their own place together, however she also wants Stella to give her mother a family heirloom personally - as a way for them to reconnect. Reluctantly Stella agrees to meet Jackie and they begin to bond. Perhaps Bob was right after all. When Stella hears that her gran has refused a potentially life-saving course of treatment she agrees to sign the money over to her mum to pay for it. However, when Bob and Jimmy return to the lawyer's office they discover that it's all a scam, Stella's gran has already died, the lawyer and Jackie were working together to gain the inheritance. Bob knows he has to break Stella's heart and tell her the truth. Stella kicks her mum out, Jackie responds viciously, telling Stella that she never loved her. Stella is happy for Jackie to keep all the inheritance money, as long as she never sets eyes on her mum ever again. Stella runs off and is almost driven to drink. Bob desperately searches for Stella but when he finds her she lashes out at him. He was the one who encouraged her to let Jackie back into her life - it's all his fault. Bob manages to talk a desperate Stella round, he did it out of love so they can move forward as a couple. She knows she can trust him to look out for her. Bob suggests he moves in with Stella at her place, that way she has the power to kick him out if it doesn't work. Bob gives Stella her gran's ring, just because her mum didn't want it, it's still her gran's and she would have wanted Stella to have it.
Dan is having a bad day - his birthday card for his son has been returned unopened. When Gabriel gives him a sure fire tip for a horse race, Dan is tempted by a flutter. Dan reaches out to Tattie and rather than go to the bookies, he accompanies her to the Remembrance garden where she finally allows herself to grieve. Despite doing the right thing, upon his return to Shieldinch Dan discovers the horse has won its race - Gabriel is ecstatic. Dan can't handle Gabriel's celebrations and ends up in the surgery betting online, desperate for the same high as his friend. Lenny is delighted to have a new grandson and doesn't care who knows about it. Unlike Scarlett. He buys Cal an expensive bike and tickets to Florida. After one argument too many Kelly-Marie puts a stop to their one-upmanship. She tells Scarlett and Lenny that this is about Callum. They both have to stop quarrelling and act like adults. If Lenny wants Cal in his life he has to stop the grand gestures and start small - like taking Cal out for the afternoon next week.
