Katie Derham with music from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ NOW. Schumann: Overture (Genoveva). Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto. Prokofiev: Symphony No 1. Haydn: Symphony No 104. Shostakovich: Symphony No 5.

Katie Derham presents a week of programmes featuring recent concerts by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales.

Classical and neo-classical music mix in a recent concert from Aberystwyth: Haydn's final symphony is preceded by Prokofiev's Classical Symphony, an imagining of what the old master might have written had he lived in the twentieth century. Norwegian virtuoso Vilde Frang is the soloist in Tchaikovsky's much-loved Violin Concerto.

The orchestra's Principal Conductor Thierry Fischer takes the helm in the Fifth Symphony by Shostakovich, written in 1937 against the uneasy backdrop of Stalin's Great Purge.
