Dvorak, Janacek
The Gould Piano Trio gives a concert at the Wigmore Hall in London. Dvorak: Piano Trio in G minor, Op 26. Janacek, arr Korber: String Quartet No 1 (Kreutzer Sonata).
Presented by Petroc Trelawny
Live from the Wigmore Hall
The Gould Piano Trio, who celebrate their twentieth anniversary this year, play Trios in G minor & E minor (Dumky) by Dvorák and an arrangement of Janácek's String Quartet No.1.
The Dvorák Trios are favourite works in the chamber music repertoire, though Korber's arrangement of Janáček's String Quartet No. 1 is less often heard. Composed in just sixteen days in 1923, the quartet takes as its point of departure Tolstoy's novella 'The Kreutzer Sonata', which tells of a husband's jealousy after his wife rehearses Beethoven's great work with a dashing violinist.
