Over £1m a day, £370m a year - that's what an official report says obesity is costing us here in NI... What personal responsibility have overweight people to bring down the bill?
Obesity is costing Northern Ireland more than £1m a day according to an official report published today. The major study issued by cross border body safefood has put the annual bill at a £370m. About a quarter of that figure involves direct healthcare costs i.e. hospital in-patient.
The total also involves economic costs like reduced or lost productivity and absenteeism in the workplace but just what can be done to tackle the problem - that we're told is getting steadily worse?
