Steve Lamacq unveils further results of The Listeners' Archive project to recover the lost gems of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s cassette archive.
Across the UK, listeners were asked to scour their lofts, garages and cupboards for tapes, cassettes and other recordings of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ radio programmes from 1936 to 2000, and handed them in at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Centres around the UK on 'Amnesty Day' in mid October.
Since then, a team of engineers have been restoring these programmes to their former glory, at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s historic Maida Vale studios.
Steve presents the cassette edit of the collection, speaking to the listeners who preserved sessions, interviews and charts throughout the years. He finds out what musical moments made them press the "rec" button.
This documentary first broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 6 Music who are celebrating the cassette next month, with a documentary devoted to this format.
