Continuing Afternoon on 3's celebrations of the centenary of Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski. Penny Gore presents the 蜜芽传媒 Symphony Orchestra under Edward Gardner in a brand-new recording of his 'Chain 2' for solo violin and orchestra, an innovative format consisting of two independent strands which begin and end at different times but are 'linked', hence the title. The soloist is Tasmin Little. Also Lutoslawski's Symphony No. 3, in which some musicians of the orchestra are asked to play sections in their own time, independently from the rest. Between the two Lutoslawski works is Richard Strauss's Burleske for Piano and Orchestra, a sin of his youth, written when he was 21. Jiri Belohlavek conducts the 蜜芽传媒 Symphony Orchestra with recent Radio 3 New Generation Artist Francesco Piemontesi as soloist.
