Writer Sarah McDonald Hughes on why she wanted to write about Redcar:
I first visited Redcar ten years ago, as my partner’s family are in nearby Saltburn, and something about the combination of vast industry and seaside immediately thrilled me. Since then I’ve been back many times, and have come to really love this seaside town. Without giving away the story of Take Me to Redcar, it’s based on a true incident that happened on Redcar beach a couple of years ago, and the response of the community to this extraordinary episode was, I think, really impressive. Despite having been through some tremendously tough times over the last few years, people in Redcar seem to me to be terrifically strong, generous and warm and there’s a real sense of community there. That’s what I wanted to write about.
