St Mirren v Heart of Midlothian
The Scottish Communities League Cup Final
Live from Hampden (kick-off 3.00pm)
The first major final of the season sees St Mirren take on Hearts at the National Stadium for the prize of the Scottish League Cup. The Paisley Buddies have never lifted this trophy so a win today would make history for them. They have made two appearances in the final - they lost to Aberdeen 2-1 in October 1955 and in 2010 they were defeated 1-0 by a Rangers side who had two players sent off. Meanwhile, Hearts have won the League Cup four times - in 1954, 1958, 1959 and 1962 - during what was the golden era of the club. They were also runners-up in 1961 and 1996.
On the way to today's final, the Tynecastle side defeated Livingston, Dundee Utd and Inverness Caledonian Thistle - the latter two by way of penalty shootouts. Meanwhile Danny Lennon's side put out Ayr Utd, Hamilton Academical, Aberdeen and had a famous victory over Celtic in the semi-final.
The outcome of today's match is a difficult one to predict with both teams lodged in the bottom half of the SPL table. Hearts recently parted company with manager John McGlynn following a 2-0 league defeat to today's opponents.
Presented by Rob Maclean with special guests Scotland manager Gordon Strachan, Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam who helped St Mirren to get back into the SPL, and former Hearts manager Jim Jefferies.
Liam McLeod and Billy Dodds are in the commentary box.
