TV Writers; ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Governance
How might the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ be governed if the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust were wound up? Plus how earnings for top TV writers are making it harder for producers to export programmes.
In a week where the future of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust has been called into question, we ask what alternative structures of governance might look like? ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trustee Richard Ayre joins Steve Hewlett to defend the Trust's performance, and a panel including former ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and OFCOM executive Tim Suter, and former trustee and Newsnight editor Professor Richard Tait, discuss what a new governing body might look like and whether it would do a better job. And, a new report says earnings for top TV writers have risen by more than 30 per cent in the last 5 years. We ask what impact this has on commissioning budgets, and find out how a reliance on one or two star writers is making it harder to export programmes to the US.
Producer: Katy Takatsuki.
