Episode 2
Louise Fryer presents music from the ѿý NOW. Dukas: Fanfare (La Peri). Knussen: Horn Concerto. Turnage: Yet another set to. Plus Arutunian, Stravinsky, Liadov, Sierra and Copland.
Louise Fryer presents the opening concert by the ѿý National Orchestra of Wales at the Arcomis International Brass Event, which took place at St David's Hall in Cardiff last week. Two inspired British brass concertos combine with an Armenian firecracker alongside Stravinsky's brilliantly scored ballet, featuring horn solos and brass fanfares. American composer Arlene Sierra works in Wales at Cardiff University: today you can hear a work from her new CD with the ѿý NOW, in which groups of instruments compete for dominance - a Stravinskian play among brass, strings, piano and percussion, at turns spry, savage, sly and seductive. Finally, a classic American Concerto, written for Benny Goodman, fusing jazz with influences from both North and South America.
